Apply for Visa
It is brought to your attention that as part of this arrangement with Consulate General of India in Hong Kong, a service charge of HKD 54.00 per passport is applicable. This charge is in addition to the visa fees as well as any other fees payable to the Consulate General of India, Hong Kong.

Types of Visas

Tourist Visa
Tourist Visas are issued to applicants travelling to India only for tourism and sight-seeing purposes. Applicant needs to submit a recent passport -sized coloured photograph, updated visa application form and relevant documents. Tourist visas cannot be extended in India. Applicants are required to submit application forms indicating the place(s) they propose to visit and duration of stay. There should be a gap of at least 2 months from the exit of the previous visit and the entry of the next visit. Applicants cannot apply for another Tourist Visa if the existing Tourist Visa has not expired even though the single entry has been used. Applicants will not be issued a multiple entry Tourist Visas. Applicants are advised to inform the counter staff about their travel dates and places to be visited esp. Sikkim.
Change of visa application from Business to Tourist is not permitted. Applicants travelling for business purposes must apply for Business visas. Applicants applying frequently for Tourist Visas must submit their applications for approval from the Consulate before seeking further action. Applicants applying for Tourist Visas who have held business visas in the past would need to submit their applications for approval before any further action can be taken.

Applicants who need to visit the following areas:
Whole of Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram and Nagaland and parts of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand, have to fill out an additional form for Sikkim & Restricted Area Permits. Applicants are requested to go through the form and the link mentioned within for information on details to be submitted for these permits.

People of Indian Origin (previously held Indian passports or having parents/spouse) who are of Indian Origin are to compulsorily apply for Entry Visas providing necessary proof of Indian Origin. Please see details on Entry Visas below. Tourist Visas will not be granted with immediate effect.Tourist visa applicants are required to provide proof of travel as tourists such as Leave letters from employers, tour package receipts booked from travel agents, self-made tours, etc. An additional form may be submitted providing complete details of travel for approval of visa applications at the Consulate. Journalists, editors, writers, publishers, etc. are requested to undertake that they would not engage in any journalistic or reporting activities during their trip.

Certain applications for Tourist visas may require an interview with the issuing officer at the Consulate General of India, prior to or after the lodgement of application. Applications that are rejected for concealing the purpose of visit would need to apply for a fresh application and the previous Tourist Visa application would stand cancelled.
Certain applications may take longer than the usual period if any clearances are to be sought. Therefore, applicants are requested not to make any travel arrangements prior to issuance of any visa.

Business Visa
Business Visa applications must include the following: Recommendation Letter from the HK/Macau company mentioning the profile of the company and complete details of the profile & passport of the applicant. It should mention exact purpose of visit and dates/durations of the same for multiple visas. The Invitation letter from the Indian company must be compatible with the recommendation letter. The application should also include a copy of the Hong Kong/Macau business registration certificate. Please note that Business Visa applications for HK/Macau ID holders for less than 2 years will take a minimum of 5 working days. Non Hong Kong / Macau passport holders need to submit copies of their Hong Kong visa pages. These could include Employment Visa, Dependent Visa, Student Visa, Visa extensions, etc.
Please note that with immediate effect all PRC (Mainland China) passport holders and Document of Identity (DI) Holders applying for any visa need to be referred for prior clearance before issuance of visas. All such applicants must submit the applications with the personal particulars form and referral fee.

Employment Visa
Applicants must provide a copy of the letter of appointment from the employer showing terms and conditions of employment including details such as remuneration and relevant taxation. Copies of documents relating to the company's incorporation in India. Applicants are requested to be ready for an interview with the issuing officer. Processing time of such applications depends on clearance. All applicants must hold a valid HK ID card for more than 2 years prior to the date of application. Please note that extensions of existing Employment Visas cannot be done in Hong Kong and should be at the respective FRROs in India.Applicants will have to be referred prior to issuance of their visas. An additional Referral Fee is applicable along with the submission of the Personal Particulars Form.

Please note that processing time for Employment Visas is subject to approvals and clearances from the Consulate. Application Status enquiries for Employment visas must be done over email only.

Conference Visa
Applicants attending conferences in India need to apply well in advance for Conference Visas as in some cases a processing time of at least 4 weeks is necessary. Apart from the usual visa requirements, they would need to provide letter of invitation giving the nature of conference; sponsorship letter from the applicant's organisation; Government of India's permission to the organisers to hold the international conference.

Student Visa
Applicants are required to submit the letter of admission from the recognised institutions where they have secured admission along with their applications for visa. Applicants are advised to apply for visa well in advance as in some cases a processing time of at least 4 weeks is required. A letter from the guardian of the student will also be required stating details of travel and well being of the student.

Transit Visa
Applicants can seek transit visa only if they intend to transit through India to their final destination. Transit visa is valid for three days (72 hours) only.

Entry or 'X' Visa
This visa is issued either to persons of Indian origin or to dependents of persons who are being issued employment visa. This visa is extendable in India after registration with the FRRO, within the prescribed period of 30 days, if they intend to stay in India for more than 180 days.

Persons of Indian origin have to compulsorily apply for Entry Visas and not Tourist Visas. They would need to provide a document proving their Indian origin for this purpose. Documents that can be considered for proof are copies of old Indian Passport, Surrender/Renunciation certificates, OCI/PIO cards, Birth certificates, etc.

People of Indian Origin (previously held Indian passports or having parents/spouse) who are of Indian Origin will need to apply for Entry Visas providing necessary proof of Indian Origin. Processing time for such visas may take a day or two more on a case-to-case basis.

Processing time of applicants for the following categories will be without any timelines and issuance is only after clearances have been sought:

  1. Applicants holding Pakistani passport
  2. Applicants’ parents, grandparents or spouse holding or ever held Pakistani passports
  3. Applicants’ parents, grandparents or spouse holding or ever held Pakistani citizenship
  4. Applicant, applicants’ parents, grandparents or spouse whose place of birth is in Pakistan.

    Note: In case the applicant, his/her parents, grandparents or spouse have or had ever held Pakistani Nationality/Citizenship or if any of them were born in Pakistan, a separate form for Pakistani Nationals and Nationals of Pakistani origin may be filled.
Other Visa Types

Journalist Visa

Journalists seeking visas for work or covering events in India may be required to fill in separate forms and provide additional information sought therein. A declaration is also to be filed in respect of equipment being carried.

Research Visa
Applicants seeking visas for doing research in India are required to obtain permission from the concerned Government Ministry in India in advance. They are also required to provide additional information, including the detailed resume of the proposed project. Declaration is also to be filed in respect of equipment being carried. A processing time of about 4 weeks may be necessary.


Please note:
Conference Visas, Employment Visas, Journalist Visas, Medical Visas, Research Visas or any other visa type that needs an approval would be sent to the Consulate for clearance to the Consulate General of India prior to lodgment of application.
